По данным ВОЗ (1990), наличие заболеваний пародонта (по сравнению с осложнениями кариеса) увеличивает в 5 раз развитие функциональных расстройств зубочелюстной системы, приводящих к потере зубов. Общеизвестно, что у больных СД пародонтит встречается практически в 100% случаев и характеризуется агрессивным характером течения. Данный патологический процесс имеет уникальную морфологическую структуру, значительно отличающуюся от воспалительных заболеваний пародонта у лиц без СД.
