Инсулин-помповая терапия при сахарном диабете, существующая уже на протяжении более 40 лет (от считывая от первых экспериментов Арнольда Кадиша), получила свое наибольшее признание в последние 10 лет благодаря развитию микроэлектроники, миниатюризации техники, применению расходных материалов, не вызывающих кристаллизации инсулина, и пр. Особым импульсом к расширению распространения помп послужило внедрение аналогов инсулина ультракороткого действия, обладающих высокой скоростью всасывания, что значительно повысило эффективность и гибкость проводимой инсулинотерапии.
